My Health

I realized that I had forgotten to add my health issues into my last post. I was going to go back and add them, but that post is so long, and this is really a miracle in itself, so I am sharing separately.

I have always been a sickly person. I had my tonsils out when I was 3. This was back before the use of lasers.

I get strep throat about 3 to 4 times a year. Have as long as I can remember. Up until I got pregnant with Boog, those were about the worst illnesses I had.

I cannot remember what year all these incidents happened. I think I at least remember the order in which they happened but even that, I am uncertain of.

In 1997, when I was pregnant with Boog, I developed a hernia. Most pregnancy hernias go away after the baby is born, but mine did not. When he was about a month old, I had to get it fixed.

In 1998, I had an unplanned pregnancy. DH and I were fighting, the worst fight that we ever had. I just knew that even though we do not believe in divorce, that I was loosing him. Then we found out about the baby. I was determined not to tell anyone about the baby until I could say it with a smile on my face. About a week after I could do that, I lost the baby. I know now that God knew what he was doing, but at the time, it was a devastating blow. This pregnancy saved my marriage. The loss of this baby strengthened my marriage. The only medical thing that the doctor could find is that I had a prolapsed uterus. His explanation was “It was God’s will.”

After I emotionally recovered from the loss, we decided to have my tubes tied. I did not want to go through another loss like that. My heart goes out to the mothers who have gone through that many times.

All this before my baby was 1.

Boog was born with acid reflux and could not sleep laying down. He had to be in a reclining position. He slept best in his car seat. Once he out grew this, he started getting ear infections. He had tubes twice.

In 1999, about the time he was getting his second set of tubes, I came down with viral meningitis. I had this for 3 weeks, before the doctor diagnosed it. When he finally did, I was too dehydrated for them to get enough fluid through the spinal tap to make a clear diagnosis. I was in the hospital on my baby’s second birthday. I remember him coming to see me that day. Oh how I wanted to hold him, but he had another ear infection and I could not.

I contracted the meningitis in late April, early May. It was mid-June before I was even attempting to go back to work full-time. I was weak, and so tired and sleepy all the time. I changed doctors, because I did not want to go to a doctor that took 3 weeks to diagnose something, when it could have been life threatening. I have serious trust issues with doctors because of this. I will not go to the doctor unless I have to.

My new doctor sent me to many specialist to find out what was wrong, why I was not just getting over it. I ended up being diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse (mvp) and neurocardiogenic sycopie. MVP is pretty common. The other is not really as common. It is basically that I do not get enough blood to my brain. No biggie really, completely treatable, but the bad part was that the meds for one counteract the meds for the other. So it took a year to get my meds in the right dosage. Once we got the meds to the right dosage, I only needed to take them for a few months. I am no longer having to take heart meds.

During this time, I ended up leaving my job, because I was missing more work than I was there for. This also gave me the opportunity to be at home with Boog, and him the opportunity to get past the ear infections. He hardly gets sick any more.

I had varicose veins since I was pregnant with Moosey. My heart doctor thought with every thing going on with my heart and blood flow, that I should get them removed. I had them “stripped”. I believe this was in 2000.

My tonsils grew back. Yes, it can happen. I had them removed for the second time. This time they used a laser, and also got my adnoids. Not long after I had mine removed, Moosey also got his removed.

I had horrible sinus infections for the longest time. I had surgery, so that that my sinus cavities could drain better. While this has helped some, I still got far to many sinus infections.

I would get these mysterious rashes. They would cover my entire body. Kinda like hives. Every doctor I have been to with them says the same thing. “I have no idea what this is. I have never seen anything like it in all my medical career.” I still get these from time to time, but usually just in small spots compared to covering my entire body.

In late 2003, I started having this sensation with my period. It felt like my uterus was going to fall out of my body, while I was on the first 2 days of my cycle. Within a few months it was like it was going to happen for a week before, through the entire cycle. I ended up having to have a hysterectomy.

Since my eye opening experience, which I will share in my next post, I have been well. I only had strep throat once in 2006. When my rash appeared this year, it was only in spots, not all over.

God is good, as I know it is Him that has cured me.
